
In Pampanga, 67 kilometers north of Manila, the city of San Fernando is strategically positioned at the crossroads of Central Luzon - 15 kilometers south of the Clark Special Economic Zone and 50 kilometers east of Subic Bay. It serves as the provincial capital and regional seat of Central Luzon.
A growing agro-industrial commercial area, San Fernando is a major rice and sugar producing area, and is the agricultural processing center of the region. The city is named after Fernando lll, King of Castille and Leon in Spain. In recent years, San Fernando has become known for its giant lanterns, a showcase of kapampangan craftmanship. A berglass lantern is actually the roof of the Paskuhan Village, now known as WOW Philippines Hilaga - a cultural, historical, tourism, trade and entertainment village.
In its drive towards development, San Fernando preserves its rich architectural heritages instruments for genuine progress.
Heritage houses, or mga bahay na bato, some (the Hizon-Singian House) built as early as 1870, a represerved to this day in their original state. In downtown San Fernando the poblacion is replete with remnants of culture and history. The Arcaded Shop Buildings of Consunji Street, established in the 1950's still serve the needs of residents, together with modern SM City Pampanga and Robinsons Star Mills along the Olongapo-Gapan Road.
Universities and colleges, some built in the early 1900's, continue their task of educating the students of San Fernando and nearby towns.
Progress directs the City. Subdivisions continue to grow, establishing San Fernando as a prime residential center. Commercial centers and fast food chains support the residential environment.
